Queues build as Blackwall Tunnel closed
The Blackwall Tunnel has been closed in the past hour causing long queues to build up in the northbound direction.
Recovery of a vehicle is ongoing, with queues back to Sun in the Sands roundabout.
East Greenwich is also slow going

Only last week I was driving back when tailbacks started by the old Hays building on the A12. Pushing slowly forwards I could see that someone had broken down near the tunnel approach and the police were in attendance. Inching closer I could see that the hood was up, a warning triangle was displayed and a frustrated woman was arguing with the officers. As my car finally managed to get past, I heard the officer repeating the following in that tone of voice they reserve for these situations
‘… this is not a breakdown, you have run out of petrol’.
Unfortunately its one of the more common occurrences on that stretch; that, and a terrified electric bicycle rider trying to haul his Deliveroo bag and wondering if he should have set his maps app to cycle rather than car.
