Toilet block site sold by Greenwich Council could become cafe

Public toilets in Abbey Wood which were sold by Greenwich Council have seen plans for a cafe and flat submitted this week.

The council’s Cabinet agreed to sell the site at Knee Hill in 2024 with it sold the following year.

Stalled development on left.

Now comes plans for the site which sit beside a half-built and abandoned development on the town’s former Post Office. That site with 30 homes was approved some years ago.

Work started and the concrete frame was completed before all activity ceased, and its been left pretty much abandoned since.

The applicant behind the toilet block cafe proposal is “ACTON LANE II (LONDON)” whose accounts are overdue according to Companies House. It shares a director with the stalled site next door, though the company that gained permission there was called “ABBEYWOOD90 Ltd“.

The proposed cafe on the toilet block would also occupy a basement.

Whether there’s sufficient footfall for a cafe remains to be seen. There’s bus stops outside but not a great deal to the south given the woods start nearby.

  • In addition, the Abbey Cafe, which in my opinion is really rather good, is just round the corner. Can’t see the need for another one.

  • Hi

Looking at the Accounts it just looks like a dog’s dinner on Companies House
When people fail to present accurate and up to date Accounts I think they are not up to the job
It seems to me, the development has no funding…when something stops halfway the issue is usually money
