New shop opens in Woolwich – but not what was expected
A new shop has opened in Woolwich but it’s not the one expected after a planning submission earlier this year.
The former New Look and Littlewoods unit on Powis Street was supposed to see a B&M open but instead has seen a Home Value.
Not quite the household name that could bring people to Woolwich and this particular part of the Powis Street which also lost WH Smiths recently.
At the moment Woolwich has a bit of a void in the middle of Powis Street that B&M would have filled. One end has the new leisure centre and revamped square whilst the other has popular shops such as Primark, Sports Direct and TK Maxx. Yet the middle seems a bit lacking.
Still other new businesses are opening with Kokoro sushi arriving recently.

There’s no outside seating as the recent street revamp prevents it. Something noted during the time when plans were being drawn up despite Greenwich stating they wanted more outside seating – then adopted a design that prevents it.
Then again I’m no sure it’d be a nice place to sit given the amount of e-bikes and delivery riders in this spot.
As for the B&M they have been contacted regarding plans in Woolwich and whether they still intend to move in but have not replied. No planning application went in for the current occupant.

Woolwich needs a couple of major names in Woolwich to bring the Town Centre up again. After losing some big stores from the area it is struggling bit still.
With plenty of footfall from residents of the new homes. Woolwich could on once again a great town centre. If they tackle anti social behaviour etc which can stop some people from wanting to visit Woolwich..
I have absolutely no issue with anyone’s faith – you do you.
However when Woolwich is gridlocked on a four carriageway road because of prayers – (includes dumped vehicles in the middle of the road – and we’re not talking a couple) it is very difficult to get around/to.
The selfishness of some (the irony of selfish prayer is not lost upon me) is incredibly off putting for everyone else.
This happens frequently btw. It’s not once a year.
