Princess Alice pub and carvery in Thamesmead boarded up as future plans awaited

A former pub and carvery in Thamesmead has been boarded up and seen fences installed around the site in recent weeks.

The Princess Alice opened around 15 years ago and shit back in 2018.

Aside from new fences being installed a planning application recently went in to Greenwich Council regarding the site stating it was “to confirm the use class of the existing site as a restaurant”.

Does that mean a new restaurant is on the way? Perhaps, though some believe that by having the use class as simply being a restaurant – and not including pub usage – that makes it easier and less cumbersome to go through the programme of demolition for other uses.

Future

What could those other uses be? The draft Local Plan revealed recently states the site could see 70 homes.

Future plan for pub site

Whether that happens soon is another matter. Don’t pay too much attention to timescales as many in previous plans have fallen many years behind schedule. And this is still only a draft.

There may be a drive-trough restaurant or a retail shed/supermarket beforehand. It is located just off a dual carriageway.

Something is clearly afoot though with the new planning application on use class. One to keep an eye on.
