Work continues on new Asian supermarket in Woolwich
Work continues on a forthcoming new Asian supermarket in Woolwich with shelving now in place.
The shop is located at the base of one new tower on Woolwich High Street.
It’s almost a year to the day since plans were covered on this site for 0086’s latest branch.

Since then stickers have appeared on the ground floor unit’s exterior but upon passing I spotted the doors open and shelving units and what could be a counter ton one side so tings seemed to be quite well advanced.
A nearby tower has recently seen a Chinese restaurant open, while to the west further towers are now almost complete with work on a layby outside underway.

There’s no applications as yet on what ground floor commercial units here will feature.
Last but not least plans for demolishing the former Waterfront leisure centre went in last week. A potential 310 homes in towers up to 20-floors in height are proposed in Greenwich Councils draft Local Plan which will determine development over the coming decade.
Busy sites
As for other parts of town, work continues nearby on Ropeyards which will see 660 homes whilst the 300-room student block nearby on Beresford Street awaits its first occupants.
A tower in front of Tesco on General Gordon Square being built as part of Woolwich Central is also on the rise.
Oh, and demolition is now underway on part of a former college in Plumstead for more homes.
To the west work has also now started on 200 homes in Charlton. A lot of these sites will be covered in further detail in the coming week.

I think the new Asian Supermarket and Chinese Restaurant will do well in Woolwich by these new developments. Woolwich is a multi cultural area..Students will also be moving in to student accommodation along Beresford Street close to these new developments.
I think Woolwich could do with an Aldi Store in Woolwich to compliment Lidl and pthrt Supermarkets in Woolwich. It would also serve the Student population moving to Woolwich and people on lower budgets as the cost of living continues to take hold.
Also I think bus routes 301 and SL11 should stop by these developments on Beresford street when travelling towards the direction of Abbey Wood and Bexleyheath.
A excellent suggestion. There are plenty of places an Aldi Store could open in Woolwich.
With a growing local population moving in to new developments and many students moving in to student accommodation. A Aldi Store would be very popular. I am surprised an Aldi Store has not already opened in Woolwich..
I agree a Aldi Store would be good in Woolwich..
I am surprised the 301 first stop on journeys towards Bexleyheath was not by the new Developments or by the hotel/Beefeater Restaurant. It would make sense.

A significant number of units in these new builds are bought by South East Asian and Chinese investors. Gotta keep the buyers happy 😉
See similar developments in Ealing Broadway and Canning Town for reference.
Nice addition to Woolwich as well, saves a trip to Charlton.
A new Aldi in Woolwich has much broader appeal and spread the demand with Lidle which is always packed. The Big Tesco has a whole isle with Oriental Things. There are already plenty of very big Oriental Warehouses in nearby Charlton.
