Fire breaks out near Bermondsey incinerator
A large fire has broken out in a building near Bermondey’s SELCHP incinerator as well as a number of railway lines.
London Fire Brigade state fifteen fire engines and around 100 firefighters are tackling the blaze in Landmann Way, Bermondsey.
Trains running on adjacent lines to and from London Brigde are impacted. Major disruption has been seen with Southeastern stating these services are impacted:
Trains are being diverted to London Victoria or may be revised or cancelled.
- Hasting line services will start / terminate at Tonbridge.
- Bexleyheath line services to London Cannon Street or London Victoria
- Dartford line will terminate at Hither Green
- Metro services will terminate at Charlton
The fire is also close to London Overground lines to New Cross. Thameslink are also seeing a number of cancellations including trains via Greenwich.
London Fire Brigade also state:
“Two of the Brigade’s 32-metre turntable ladders have been deployed to the scene to help fight the fire from above.
“Control Officers took the first of multiple calls at 1732 and have mobilised crews from Deptford, Old Kent Road, Greenwich and surrounding fire stations to the scene.”

The fire appears to be in a unit close to the incinerator which burns rubbish from across south east London generating 35 megawatts of power. It was creeated by Greenwich, Southwark and Lewisham councils.
The impact upon the incinerator from the neabry fire is as yet unknown.
