Accident at A102 in Greenwich leads to long queues around Silvertown and Blackwall tunnels
An accident on the A102 in Greenwich has seen miles of traffic build up this afternoon.
The southbound road around the slip exit to Blackwall Lane saw a collision at the awkward point where traffic from Silvertown tunnel and Blackwall tunnels now converge.
In turn southbound traffic in the Kent-bound direction towards the A2 is blocked and miles of queues has followed.
All bus routes are liable to long delays with the 108, SL4 and 129 seeing extended journey times.
This does highlight one of the main issues with Silvertown tunnel as it pushes traffic into the same existing road network south of the river with vehicles meeting traffic exiting the Blackwall tunnel. In recent months southbound afternoon traffic has been as bad as ever – if not worse – with miles of congestion daily even without accidents.
Now the tunnel is approaching one year old it’s an issue I’ll look to cover. It may have helped northbound morning delays – as expected – but southbound congestion through Greenwich borough has seen little improvement. To compound problems the ferry roundabout in Woolwich is more gridlocked than ever.

As a Westcombe Hill resident, I only noticed an uptick around the time the idiot council put in the LTN, compounded now by the eternal cycle lane works to the ferry, and the on/ off availibility of Vanbrugh Hill. The biggest surprise is the occasional post-10pm traffic, sonetimes its worse than evenings.
