Eltham station redevelopment ruled out by Network Rail and Southeastern
There are no plans to redevelop Eltham station anytime soon according to Network Rail and Southeastern despite recent rumours.
In an answer to a question before a Greenwich Council meeting this week it was stated there is no plan in “the short or medium term to develop Eltham station.”

It’s probable that will be long term situation given where the station is located.
Before 1985 there were two railway stations in Eltham on the Bexleyheath line. Due to road building work on the A2, Eltham’s two stations were consolidated into one.
That singular station now sits atop the dual carriageway making redevelopment tricky.

Before those 1980s changes there were two stations n the town:
Eltham Well Hall was located 200 metres to the west of the present-day station on the other side of Well Hall Road.
Eltham Park station was further away to the east of the current station.
It was located on what’s now a lovely little street with great places to eat and drink.
Both stations were closed and replaced by the current station which comprises a low-rise building as well as a large forecourt in front acting as a major bus interchange.
Given the current cost and difficulties of developing land it was never likely Eltham would be near the top of the list.
If Network Rail seek to make additional income from land development to invest in the railways there’s plenty more sites that are easier to develop.
Sorry for typos and broken page structuring earlier. This post was posted on a bus with rubbish network connection on an old phone and each time a photo was added the formatting would go haywire. Absolute nonsense.

Eltham born & bred, I was furious at what happened with the gash caused by the new A2. The design of the station is faulty & fatuous beyond belief. Is there a longer inbuilt upward slope to platforms anywhere else? Access & links to buses laughable.
I do think there are plans to redevelop and rebuild Eltham railway station despite it was built over the A2. It does look rather outdated and it needs a massive upgrade.
I’ve been to Eltham once before and it does look pretty outdated despite it still has that Network Southeast colour with it. I do think that it should be redeveloped for the local people who live in the area around Eltham in Southeast London.
I’d rather keep Eltham railway station and bus station as it is and not demolish it because it sits above the A2. Unless there are plans to demolish it and to rebuild and redevelop it to make it much nicer and lot more modern.
