Diesel spill closes road between Woolwich and Plumstead

Plumstead Road remains closed after a diesel spillage last night.

According to Greenwich Council “The London Fire Brigade attempted to clear the spillage using granules, but this was unsuccessful.

“As a result, the road is closed eastbound between Warren Lane and Pettman Crescent while our highways contractor, Marlborough, carries out resurfacing today.”

As the main route from Plumstead and the bus garage to Woolwich closure has impacted traffic and bus services widely.

At the time of writing (2:45pm) there’s heavy traffic on Burrage Road with vehicles diverted along with queues around the Plumstead gyratory.

Transport for London state:

“PLUMSTEAD ROAD, GREENWICH, SE18, ROUTES 122 244 380 469 472 are on diversion via Plumstead common Road, Waverley Crescent, Griffin road, Plumstead High Street, Plumstead Road and Pettman Crescent due to an emergency services incident.

“Bus stop from ‘Maxey Road’ will be missed. Please allow extra time for your journey.”
