Greenwich’s Trafalgar Tavern wins outside seating battle
A riverside pub in Greenwich has won its fight to have an enforcement notice dropped regarding outside seating beside the Thames.
However the battle isn’t entirely over as the pub has to submit detailed plans which the council will then decide upon.
Greenwich Council had complained about clutter on the busy path. Regardless of the merits or not of this one instance, Greenwich Council objecting to clutter always brings a smile.
I mean, that’s their job isn’t it? Few other councils go as overboard with all sorts of street furniture and their love of pointless bollards thrown up in random location (hindering pedestrians) is legendary.
It’s a bit rich for them to state the area “needs to be easy for people with disabilities, the elderly, or people with pushchairs to use” when their own transport and highways department work tirelessly to do the opposite all over the borough.
As is there obsession with guardrails. I was thinking the other day in when passing Kidbrooke how all the battered, ugly and excessive railings detract from the award winning new housing directly beside.
It spoke volumes that the council’s own flagship housing project is left looking a mess outside due to their own transport department.
And then when it comes to their constant refusal to utilise incoming Section 106 and CIL revenue from new developments to improve pedestrian access at major developments, from new Woolwich estate where they refused Network Rail’s offer to contribute towards an accessible bridge or token measures around Greenwich relating to the Silvertown tunnel mitigation, they talk a good talk but don’t want to walk the walk, as it were.

to be honest, as far as i can see this seating adds to the atmosphere in that location and a lovely place to sit, have lunch or a drink. I couldn’t see the problem with the ice cream man near the park either, the biggest problem in that road is the parked cars, why don’t they get rid of those, oh, i know, it’s because RBG gets revenue from them.
A good result for business, locals and tourists at last. Greenwich council make life unnecessarily difficult.
Nah it aint. I bet yourn on ere never walk along the rivah. Ere you can ardly get by wot with all them seats tables pulled ahrt when them TT people drink there. Iss intimidatin for passers by n all. Shame the inspector was oodwinked by the Dowlin n is ilk on ere,
Good. Was massive overreach by the council. Concentrate on things that matter not bothering local businesses. Start with Greenwich’s woeful mobile phone signal and keeping council tax down
