North Greenwich coach parking set to be moved
A north Greenwich coach parking area could be moved under newly submitted plans.
Developer Knight Dragon are seeking to move it to a site elsewhere on the peninsula before either developing or using the existing coach park for other temporary purposes.

It’s a prime spot of land beside the Thames south of the cable car though despite housing plans being on the board for many years, little has happened as with many other plots across the peninsula.
The short-lived David Beckham academy was around this spot once upon a time.
The future coach park is set to be beside a “temporary” car park which recently saw a 10-year extension approved beside Millennium Way. The application states “the layout options have been developed with the aim the of reducing the level of S278 works required whilst seeking to maintain the required 2,000 car parking spaces”.
In terms of coach spaces, future numbers reduce from 67 to 25.
Nearby development
One plot beside the existing car park is currently seeing construction work near completion.
This is plot 19.05 which totals 431 flats. Mace are constructing four blocks beside Central Park with Axis Architects behind the design.

Another plot to the east beside the Thames was approved yet again in late 2023 at plot M0121. Nothing has commenced after what looked a positive start with workers and some plant on that site.
It’s now 11 years since the first approval was given for that site.
Another plot – named 19.04 – was given planning approval eight years ago and nothing as yet has been built.
With such slow progress at neighbouring plots whether anything happens on the coach park remains to be seen.

Isn’t about time a special ‘Land Tax’ is applied to sites where planning approval has been granted but no construction started. Eight years since planning approval granted and nothing build for plot 19.04 is ridiculous. Make the developer sweat a little and have to pay this special land tax… that might get them building…
I am told – repeatedly – there is a ‘Housing Crisis’ but there seems an awful lot of sites where housing could be built in London but isn’t…
LAbsolutely PJS. A land tax or fine should be applied where sites tbat have been earmarked for development. Where planning applications have been granted but construction is delayed for years and even decades and planning approval been allowed to lapsed. Local Authorities should also face the land tax or fine where they site on sites due for social.housing or sell land owned by them to private developers when social housing could be built on the sites for local people from the Borough on the housing waiting list.
Many sites around the Borough have stood empty and undeveloped for yesrs with no sign of planning applications being granted for housing on the sites.
The priority for Greenwich Council seems to be student accommodation at the moment with many students accommodation blocks under construction.
