Eltham Centre to see £10 million spend after roof leaks
Greenwich Council are looking to undertake work on the Eltham Centre with an estimated cost of £10 million for air pumps and fixing issues with the building.
According to a report uploaded to their website part of the funding will be from a government grant and covers “replacement of the heating and ventilation systems at the Eltham Centre.
“This involved replacing the gas fired boilers with air source heat pumps (ASHP), together with roof replacement (whilst the plant is removed)”.
A total of £4m comes from the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme. Greenwich Council will pay £6 million.
New Centre

The Centre opened in 2008 with leisure centre facilities integrated within an existing library facing the High Street.
Despite a relatively young age the report states that roof coverings are “life expired and leaking”.
It continues: “RBG commissioned consultants Blakeney Leigh to carry out a feasibility study to investigate the single ply membrane to the roof that has suffered from leaks in various locations.
“There has also been water penetration to the façade due to faulty parapet capping’s.”

You don’t report eltham much on ere.
Surely the Council’s own Building Inspectors should have spotted this obviously sub standard work just like all the other inferior work that goes on in the name of RBG.
If there is nothing wrong with the current heating system, It’s not environmentally friendly to replace the heating system with air source heat pumps.
I can’t believe a building that is less than 20 years old needs that much repair work – who signed this off, they should maybe repay some money.
Greenwich, like all local authorities don’t seem to care how much taxpayers money they waste. The leader of the council is on £125,000 – maybe people need to be better qualified before earning this sort of money and being in charge of spends like £10million.
I’m going to write to my local councillor about this. Maybe they need a few more quotes.
