Fire at Thamesmead home

Seventy firefighters battled a fire which broke out on Mangold way in Thamesmead.

London Fire Brigade state ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters were on scene at the home converted into flats. A garage was also impacted.

These houses were built as part of the original development of south Thamesmead with garages on the ground floor due to flood concerns in the 1960s.

The LFB state: “One of the Brigade’s 32-metre turntable ladders was used at the scene as an observation tower to provide the Incident Commander with an aerial view of the fire.

“Control Officers took the first of 32 calls at 1916 and mobilised crews from Erith, Bexley and East Greenwich fire stations to the scene. The fire was under control by 2116.”

  • I hope everyone involved in this incident are safe and okay.
Some of the distances fire crews have to travel between their fire stations and locations of the incidents show consecutive Government’s and consecutive Mayor”s of London over the years have all allowed servicex to be cut back far to far to unacceptable levels.
There now needs to be major investment in new fire stations and more new appliances introduced across Greater London.
Fire crews pay also need to be reviewed and increased to take in to account the dangers they face in their day to day work.
