London Bridge office tower rising as part of wider change beside station

An office tower is now quickly rising beside London Bridge station as part of a number of blocks set to bring student housing, offices and lab space within a life sciences building.

Developed by Edge it’s situated on the former site of Becket House, the old Home Office Immigration building at 60-68 St Thomas Street.

Second tallest now rising. Adjacent block near complete. No beanies

An adjacent student tower is now all but complete externally.

Upon completion 905 student rooms will be located at the “Chapter” tower.

The plan is for blocks to gradually reduce in height to the east along St Thomas Street.

To the immediate west sits a student tower almost complete.

Reducing heights away from the Shard. General massing shown not actual design for all blocks

On the opposite side development will be undertaken at Vinegar Yard which is currently home to a market.

Southwark Council previously rejected plans which were overturned by Mayor Sadiq Khan in 2022.

Development proposed in future

A life sciences building is proposed in a collaboration between King’s Health Partners and Guy’s and St Thomas’ Foundation. Guy’s Hospital of course sits a short distance away as does a King’s College university campus.

Lab space on site will support medical research.

Quite a bit going on then in the immediate vicinity of London Bridge station. More are likely once planning tangles are sorted including another plot near Borough High Street including New City Court.

Unfortunately it now looks like a new station entrance will not be built on that site.

I noticed on YouTube the other day. At one time There was supposed to be a Proposed Line Extension from London Bridge to London Liverpool Street. But it didn’t happen which was such a shame really. But i hope they plan to bring it back one day. Like for example. When I was getting a Train from Bush Hiil Park to London Liverpool Street. I changed for a 149 Bus. But the Traffic wasn’t moving. So in the end. I gave up and walked it to London Bridge Railway Station and changed for another Train. So will they plan to look into this in the future. Not only that. As they are planning London Overground at London Bridge in the future as well. Why not plan a Brand New Train Service to Gatwick Airport in the future as well?

Vinegar Yard? Is that the old Sarsons factory? Much like the old Peak Freans factory, it would have been nice to have kept the name, though I sip there are copyright issues to consider.
