Part of Docklands Light Railway to see ten days of closure
An extensive period of closures is set to impact Docklands Light Railway passengers later this month.
The stretch between Shadwell and Bank will see closures from Saturday 21st December until Monday 30th December for track work.
Other shorter-term closures include further between Beckton to Prince Regent while testing new trains continues.
Train delays
New stock being manufactured in Spain by CAF were due in service before the end of the previous financial year.
That April 2024 deadline was not met and at the end of this year there’s still no confirmed introduction.
During testing one train overshot its stopping point and issues with train speeds and signalling were noted.
While trains were not speeding the allowance between theoretical max speed and running speed was deemed too small.
This saw cuts and then slower journeys across the entire network introduced while further testing and closures have been ongoing.
Ad hoc reductions in services system-wide are also evident in recent months with another pencilled in for 17th February when a “reduced service on the entire network” is planned.
Problems with introduction have seen 30-year old stock last longer in service. When issues are resolved, total train numbers and overall capacity will be greatly enhanced across the network.
The DLR is going downhill rapidly. They are basically shutting off the main purpose of the DLR aka getting people into bank for 10 days at the busiest time of the year. The roll out of new trains is an absolute joke. Stations are run down, Cutty sark for one is basically one step away from being shut down. Get it sorted TfL
