More Silvertown tunnel images released by Transport for London
In recent weeks this site has looked at how road networks are changing both north and south of the Thames in advance of Silvertown tunnel opening next year, and now Transport for London have released further images including within the tunnel.
The main image above shows tarmac down while work on systems testing continues before vehicles begin using the tunnel is less than six months.
Another image released by TfL shows new roads but is a few weeks older than that above taken by myself. It shows the now all-but-complete extensive new network of roads and vehicle parking across the area at Tidal Basin roundabout.
Lastly there’s one showing one approach to the roundabout.
Note the north of the river does appear to have far more appealing landscaping alongside more extensive physical road changes to encourage active travel.
TfL recently announced a further funding boost for active travel measures north of the Thames.
They didn’t however didn’t release any images of south of the river so here’s one of mine.
Yep, not much in the way of making the area more attractive there or for pedestrians in the wider area.
Cycling approaches remain dismal from many sides particularly all crossing both over and under the A102 approach roads.
Tolls
If you missed it last week Transport for London revealed the results of a consultation with a report before TfL’s Board Meeting.
The document stretches to hundreds of pages though next to nothing has changed since initial proposals for tolls and other transport measures revealed earlier this year.
Toll levels for cars, motorbikes, vans and lorries remain at initially proposed levels. Details can be seen here.
It would be nice if a new road tunnel was to be built from Beckton to Thamesmead and to connect the A406 North Circular Road and A205 South Circular Road. But hopefully the new Silvertown tunnel should be up and ready for next year and to relieve most of the congestion on the A102 Blackwall Tunnel.
There is some work going on alongside the A102 on the embankment between the Old Dover Road and the Angerstein Gyratory. Could this be for a cycleway? Greenwich Council allowed developers to build a brick wall across London Cycle Network link 64 at Scofield Walk in 2004.
It’s a noise barrier installation. It will run the last leg of the viaduct except the stretch from Station Crescent to Siebert Road
Hello thank you for your efforts on keeping us informed. We’re all helpless bystanders it appears. What can we do to make our pedestrian voices heard so we and bicyclists are considered? I’m very worried about the air pollution impacts. When and where has this been evaluated? Surely landscaping is a critical part of ameliorating this? Where are the tunnels that extract the exhaust fumes from the cars in the tunnel going to be located? All the consultation docs I’ve managed to find avoid disclosing this.
You make a very valid point Lisa. Sadly despite consultations and public events regarding the Silvertown Tunnel our voices and comments are largely ignored by the powers that be at TFL and Mayor of London Office. Local MP’s have also done little to raise people’s concerns on the issues raised.around vehicle fumes, increased traffic levels, lack of public transport using the new Silvertown Tunnel..
