Further plans in for Thamesmead craft beer bar and brewery

Further plans are in for a proposed bar in Thamesmead from a local brewery.

Cygnet Square will be the location for Rock Leopard’s venture which is set to feature a small on-site brewery.

Proposed exterior as seen in new planning application

The site was formerly Tavy Bridge and sits within walking distance to Abbey Wood station within the first phase of Peabody’s redevelopment of the area.

Next to the this area is a forthcoming set of blocks to the north at Binsey Square beside Southmere Lake, which is set to provide extra footfall in future. See the area labelled Phase 2 below.

Other nearby developments include a recently approved hotel and co-living units on Eynsham Drive in Abbey Wood at the former car wash and PDSA site.

Nearby sees other plans including a 25-floor tower submitted this month near Abbey Wood station.

New homes springing up across the area

Plans for the pub were submitted in 2023 and approved in February 2024. This latest application covers external appearance and signage.

The exact unit is number 13 to the north of the square. The area’s replacement library for Newacres sits to the east beside Southmere Lake.

Cygnet Square has been slow to see units move in, with low levels of building in the vicinity limiting footfall.

Hopefully that’ll change soon as well as appealing to existing local residents, while it’s a walkable to Abbey Wood station. It appears a very welcome addition to the area.
