New Lidl approved in Erith with further details submitted

Further plans have been submitted for a forthcoming Lidl on Fraser Road in Erith.

The supermarket group have been attempting to open on the retail park site for years, with plans in 2018 being rejected.

Rejected plan. Approved building makes greater use of land with storage facility above shop

Altered plans went in the following year in 2019. Another plan went in last year and was approved in May 2024.

Recently the group gained permission from Bexley Council, and now a new proposal is for ‘Erection of new mixed-use development, comprising a ground floor discount foodstore (Use Class E) and self-storage (Use Class B8) above, with car parking, landscaping and other associated works, following the demolition of existing building…to increase area of sales floorspace”.

The site sits a short walk from Erith station and the Quarry development which saw a Sainsbury’s recently open – although that’s small store.

The Quarry site also includes a primary school and will total 850 homes.

It’s the latest in the group’s ongoing expansion and joins nearby shops in Belvedere, Bexleyheath, Welling, Abbey Wood and Woolwich.

Running a site alone takes time and a fair bit of money. Adverts are far from enough to cover it and my living costs as a private renter.

I've lived in south east London most of my life growing up in Greenwich borough and working in the area for many years. The site has contributors on occasion and we cover many different topics. Living and working in the area offers an insight into what is happening locally.

    • I think a Lidl store in Erith will be very well received by local residents. Lidl provide a good range of products at reasonable prices. Which is vital as we have to keep an eye on the pennies. I am.alasys pleaded to see empty buildings and sites be brought back in to use whether for retail, housing. mixed use developments or other commercial space.
I wish LIdl good luck with their planning application for the new store.
