Erith Riverside Gardens upgrade to complete this summer
Work to renovate Erith’s Riverside Gardens is set to complete this summer according to Bexley Council.
The Thames-side public park will see new seating, a playground and outdoor fitness zone. A community gardening area will be located along a ‘Thames promenade route’ running the length of the gardens.
Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, Cllr Richard Diment said:
“We’re really pleased with how Riverside Gardens is coming together, the changes are part of the Council’s serious commitment to transforming the area and opening up the riverside space. The gardens have been designed to offer something for everyone.
We know how keen residents are to start enjoying the new facilities and we’re working hard to allow safe access as soon as possible.”
May opening
Newly planted areas are also being given time to properly establish before the park fully opens to the public. It is hoped that some of the park will be open for public use in May, with a formal opening planned for June.
Work is being delivered by the Greater Erith Programme funded by the Council and partners.
A number of housing developments are proposed. ONe big long term question is the future of the 1960s shopping centre. A developer purchased the site with statements about mixed-use redevelopment.
BYM state “There is significant development potential at Erith Riverside Shopping Centre. BYM Capital is exploring opportunities for a large scale, residential-led redevelopment and repositioning project in collaboration with the London Borough of Bexley.”
However little has emerged since they purchased the site in 2021.

Erith Riverside shopping is abysmal. We recently found out that the for Wilkinson store is going to be another Gym! There are still empty shops. All very nice having riverside gardens but they won’t keep Erith from fading away

Residents want to enjoy a Shopping experience if they visit the Riverside Gardens but this has
been in decline for many many years.
Come On Bexley it’s time to give serious
thought & financial input to make Erith a place
to visit & enjoy.
People should look at the history of erith in the 40s 50s they had more then than this generation has ever had in erith. Let’s be truthful and honest its a dump that just keeps getting worse. Gardens lol no we want proper shops that provide the locals with what they need. We’ve got morrisions where we can purchase out of date food. HOW AMAZING ERITH HAS BECOME
