Thamesmead lighthouse set to be demolished

A lighthouse beside the river in Thamesmead on site since 1902 is set for demolition and replacement.
The Port of London Authority seek not only to remove but also demolish the structure despite it being locally listed.
The structure at Tripcock Ness predates the town of Thamesmead itself by some 65 years, with “Thamesmead” only becoming a distinct name of the town after a competition to name the area in 1967.
A Mr Anthony Walton of Barnehurst won £20 for his suggestion.
Safety
The Port of London Authority state removal is needed for safety reasons, stating in an application:
“Following recent working at height risk assessments conducted by the PLA a number of issues have been identified for this and other similar structures across the Tidal Thames.
“This is principally on the need to eliminate the need for working at height for the safety of engineers working to maintain the lighthouse, located in a remote area and ensure it remains fully operational.”
A more utilitarian structure will take its place if approved.
Even if replaced it appears a shame complete demolition is on the cards. I’m sure there’s places that would be able to host the structure as a local feature. Possibly the nearby Crossness Pumping Station site?
Or a feature at any number of new developments in Thamesmead or Woolwich as a link to the past? Perhaps a developer could assist; Peabody? Berkeley Homes?
Running a site alone takes time and a fair bit of money. Adverts are far from enough to cover it and my living costs as a private renter.

How many Port of London officials are needed to change a light bulb 💡.
What a waste of money 💰
It’s been there 120+ years and a ‘saving’ will be made by replacement lol
