Greenwich restaurant Zaibatsu set to close
An east Greenwich restaurant looks set to be leave its Trafalgar Road premises after being given notice by their landlord.
Japanese fusion restaurant Zaibatsu state their landlord has not renewed the lease and are looking for an alternative unit.
Their last day is listed as Sunday 7th January.
Local Greenwich councillors have offered to refer the business owners to the council’s business support department in the hope of finding a new premises.
Outrageous. This place has been a firm favourite in the area also winning No1 restaurant to visit in London for several years in the past. I hope they find new premises asap.
I agree James it is such a shame, always busy, fresh food and nice staff
@James Dilla: I no idea that Zaibatsu was so well regarded and certainly wouldn’t have said so judging from the shabby appearance of the exterior. Will the landlord do anything about the premises before getting in a new tenant at what will probably be a greatly increased rent?
Such a shame!
Perhaps they will consider to take on the now vacant Copper and Ink venue in Blackheath.
So sad to see all these independent places closing down and the bland chains taking over London.
Good shout Levi though I suspect high rents might be behind why Copper and Ink closed down.
Agreed, Zaibatsu managed to do tasty, beautiful food for relatively little money. Compared to nearby places (Toomai Square, not missed at all; or the eye-watering prices for Sticks n Sushi) there was a reason it was always packed out. Hope they find something decent nearby soon, would be horrified to see it replaced with something like Chopstix
Agree Charles, I find a lot of sushi dishes at Sticks n Sushi not very fresh like it’s been sitting around for ages. For that reason we have not been for months!
My favourite restaurant in London, never had a complaint about the food, great quality at great value. Really sad to, had a few of my favourite places close since the pandemic. Very much praying Zaibatsu finds a place.
This place was phenomenal. Very sad it’s closing. My wife has suggested we move as nothing keeping us in Greenwich now, I only half think she’s joking.
A few other changes in Greenwich recently too. Anyone know what’s happening at the Costa site?
Heartbreaking. I live nearby and this restaurant was far beyond anything else the area has to offer. Hope they reopen soon!
