New “High Street” coming as part of Silvertown Quays development

Work continues on the first of an eventual 6,500 homes in Silvertown Quays that will also include new shops along a “High Street”.

These images were taken from a passing DLR and show work on site where the Guinness Partnership will build 720 affordable homes in phase one of the development.

Millennium Mills to rear

That includes commercial space and what has been described as a High Street running from North Woolwich Road to the dock.

A further stage has been submitted which will see 1,248 homes and 82,328 sqm new commercial space.

Possible completed scheme

The site is designated as an ‘Enterprise Zone’.

The site has lay empty for decades as plans came and went without much starting.

Both the listed Millennium Mills and D Silo on site will be restored and integrated within the overall development.

I've lived in south east London most of my life growing up in Greenwich borough and working in the area for many years. The site has contributors on occasion and we cover many different topics. Living and working in the area offers an insight into what is happening locally.

  • The render of the proposed development suggests they will be filling in most of Pontoon Dock, if they haven’t already done so. All water bodies in docklands should be kept as they add to visual interest, as amenity and value.
