Construction work finally underway at Silvertown Quays

Recent journeys on the DLR through Silvertown have shown work now underway at the vast Silvertown Quays site after years of delays.

Much of the site has lay empty since an ill-fated music festival was planned – and cancelled – back in 2014.

In total 6,000 homes are proposed with work now underway on the first 1,500.

Finally some movement is evident after 20 years of inaction.

Funding

In July 2022 it was announced that assistance would be given by Homes England and the Mayor of London to enable work to progress on the Lendlease owned site.

This will see the build out of the latest plans approved in 2019.

A bridge is due to be constructed to better link the site.

For those in the south of the development, DLR stations n the Woolwich Arsenal branch will be the closest station.

Stage 1 now underway includes homes opposite Royal Wharf which recently completed. That site includes 3,400 homes.

Beside that is Deanston Wharf which sees a further 800 homes.

Groundworks have been underway in recent weeks on land facing North Woolwich Road, which itself is due to see funds for substantial changes.
