Woolwich bar owners seek longer opening
The owners of Salt Bar in Woolwich are proposing to extend opening hours at a Licensing Committee meeting this week.
Councillors will decide this Wednesday 27th September on closing times up to 1am on Friday and Saturday nights instead of midnight.
Sundays to Wednesdays would extend from 11pm to midnight.
The venue was formerly a Hop Stuff bar until the brewery hit trouble with Salt taking over. They also operate the former Hop Stuff bar in Deptford.
Signs of life
The square where the venue sits is still lacking much life with many units empty despite the proximity to the Elizabeth line station.
Starbucks recently opened within the Officers’ House though other units facing the square are yet to be occupied. They hopefully will soon.
One unit will be taken on by a salon.
As for the “arcade” leading off the square there’s nothing at all in terms of commercial units.
Berkeley Homes already reduced commercial units before completion and now there’s not much happening at all.
The initial plan was a route lined with commercial units leading to the forthcoming Armourers Court development.
It would also offer a route when heading east for those heading to thousands of new homes in that direction.
It’s not really turned out that way.
It’s all pleasant enough but not the interesting public space initially promised.
Running a site alone takes time and a fair bit of money. Adverts are far from enough to cover it and my living costs as a private renter.

A planning app recently went in that seems to suggest Salt are taking the unit next door for a much bigger bar space with games etc. If approved this will be great for Woolwich.
This looks like the one. Salt is regularly packed so it would make sense to expand given the large amount of vacant space Berkeley has.
