TfL put on Woolwich ferry one boat service despite Blackwall tunnel closure

The Woolwich ferry has been operating with a one boat service today despite the Blackwall tunnel’s closure all weekend in the southbound direction.

This weekend sees the Blackwall tunnel closed on both Saturday and Sunday as part of Silvertown tunnel work.

The ferry has been a bit of shambles for some years now since three former boats were replaced by two new vessels.

New ferries have often failed

That left no resilience if problems arose – which they did with new automatic docking mechanisms.

The ferry is going to close entirely for six weeks from 24th July.

It’s bad news for those who’ve moved into new hmes in north Woolwich. The Woolwich foot tunnel also frequently see lifts out of operation.
