Starbucks look to open in Crayford

An application has been submitted by Starbucks to Bexley Council for the opening of a new branch at the former Poundstretcher unit in Crayford.

The unit sits close to Aldi in a big retail shed build a few years ago within the Crayford one-way system. A lovely place for a coffee I’m sure you’ll agree.

Poundstretcher didn’t last long after opening in late 2018.

Sainsbury’s nearby also closed their café recently in the store – as they did at the vast majority of supermarkets across the country including Abbey Wood.

It was quite a popular place for a coffee locally.

When they did so one rationale was to have company’s like Starbucks open in the area left behind.

That hasn’t worked to plan in Crayford anyway.

In other news, a new block of flats in Crayford is now underway near the proposed. I covered it when first proposed back in 2018.

In July this year I covered a proposal for 568 homes opposite the future Starbucks site.

I've lived in south east London most of my life growing up in Greenwich borough and working in the area for many years. The site has contributors on occasion and we cover many different topics. Living and working in the area offers an insight into what is happening locally.

    • Some of them have changed. I guess in Crayford it worked out cheaper not to? Sainsbury’s blanket closure seems rash. It was often pretty busy in Crayford when I visited
