Woolwich housing development now above ground

A block of flats from Greenwich Council’s developer Meridian Homes is now beginning to rise in Woolwich town centre.

The development includes 47 flats beside Plumcroft school at the junction of Burrage Road and Vincent Road.

Corner treatment. Expectation of greenery draped from roof = minimal

As a Meridian Home Start development rents are set midway between council housing and below “affordable” rents at 80 per cent.

As a Community Benefit Society all income is due to be reinvested. Right to Buy is also excluded.

The site is opposite long vacant TfL plot used to construct the DLR up until 2009.

To the west lies land due to become a new leisure centre and 500 homes.

And to the north if Spray Street where 801 homes are coming as part of Woolwich Exchange. This image shows blue hoardings on that site:

Running a site alone takes time and a fair bit of money. Adverts are far from enough to cover it and my living costs as a private renter.

I've lived in south east London most of my life growing up in Greenwich borough and working in the area for many years. The site has contributors on occasion and we cover many different topics. Living and working in the area offers an insight into what is happening locally.
