Plans for housing on Thamesmead site beside 1750-home plot

Developer Modomo are looking are building on a site in Thamesmead and seek to build:

  • 95 units of co-living bedrooms and communal spaces (up to 6 storeys)
  • 10 live-work units on the ground floor level;
  • A community hub
  • Circa 950m2 providing onsite accommodation (for the adjacent Plumstead -West Thamesmead development)

The Modomo website states they focus on short term living: “Modomo makes use of these sites on a temporary or meanwhile basis, quickly delivering bespoke modular constructed homes for an agreed period of time. Then we take them away for re-use elsewhere.”

The site lies adjacent to plans for 1,750 homes approved last year; a joint venture between Berkeley Homes and Peabody.

I covered the plan last December and highlighted a lack of public realm and access to public transport in funding agreements between Greenwich Council and developers. TfL and the NHS were also critical of allocated funding levels.

The application is an early screening opinion and not a full planning application. Click here to view the document.

I've lived in south east London most of my life growing up in Greenwich borough and working in the area for many years. The site has contributors on occasion and we cover many different topics. Living and working in the area offers an insight into what is happening locally.
