Woolwich ferry reopening delayed – possibly to mid-January

In not wholly surprising news, plans to commence services of the Woolwich ferry with new vessels by the end of December have not occurred.

The new date is “early January” though TfL also state “there were some teething problems we encountered during testing but services will resume operation before mid-January at the very latest (by 15/1/19).” The website still states late December.

The old ferry

Testing commenced but glitches with one boat meant tests with both could not be carried out. One issue with the replacement boats is there are only two instead of three as before. Reliability is expected to be better, and it’ll have to be, as it does reduce resilience.

New boats will use auto docking

If TfL can get both boats running in the first week of January it’s no major hardship given reduced traffic levels just after new year. Any longer and criticism will rise. Woolwich has already missed out on Crossrail opening.

I’m running an appeal over Xmas and new year for help with the site. More info here
