Major fire breaks out in south east London disrupting trains

A major fire has broken out tonight in what appears to be the Bermondsey area.

Photos and video show a fire in the same general area to a blaze which hit a recycling plant back in June.

That was beside Bermondey’s SELCHP incinerator as well as near a number of railway lines. According to the London Fire Brigade around 100 firefighters are on scene.

Rail company Southeastern state: “A fire on a property near London Bridge means some lines are disrupted. As a result, trains that call at London Bridge may be cancelled, delayed or revised.

“Disruption is expected until the end of the day.

“A large fire has broken out at a recycling plant between New Cross and London Bridge. Currently some lines are unsafe for the passage of trains.”

UPDATE: Some passengers have been on trains for some time in the area with no power. In addition there’s now fire evident away from the recycling plant and in a spot between where London Bridge-bound tracks diverge with some heading to the Bermondsey dive under.

It could be sleepers seen here and other materials beside the tracks are alight tonight going by recent videos.

The latest blaze is also close to London Overground services.

Southeastern later updated advice to state all trains are halted: “All lines are now blocked between London Bridge and New Cross. DO NOT attempt to travel to/from London Bridge”.

TfL say the Windrush line is now completely suspended.

Network Rail have also said “There is a major fire near the railway this evening closing all lines between London Bridge and New Cross.”
