Cafe plans in for empty Eltham High Street shop
A former Three mobile phone shop on the corner of Eltham High Street and Passey Place has plans go in for a new bakery and cafe.
Muffin Break have submitted the proposal to Greenwich Council, with documents uploaded yesterday.

The chain have stores in Lewisham and Bexleyheath to name but two locations of many across the country.
It’ll sit on the other side of Passey Place from the excellent Delicio cafe. Muffin Break offer a lighter food choice compared to the wide selection at Delicio.
Changes
Another place to eat and drink in a former shop is yet another example of the changing fortunes of High Streets.
Some will complain but at least Eltham is doing well to entice food and drink outlets rather than more empty units.
And it’s not just cafes and restaurants, as the town has a great selection of pubs including the recently opened micro pub at the eastern end of the High Street, as recently covered on this site.
In addition, if you missed it yesterday there are plans in for the GPO pub site close to the proposed cafe, with a rear extension and new homes.
Muffin Break is set to open on Friday 8th May.

I wish the new bakery/cafe every success for the future.Nice to see more places to eat or have a drink in town centres.
I have always thought Greggs should look for larger premises on the High Street or open another shop on the high street as their existing premises is small with not a lot of room for customers.
Fabulous muffins and amazing milkshakes. There goes my diet again.
We do not need another cafe in eltham high street! There is already a cafe next door to it, a coffee shop opposite, pie and mash shop and a subway. These are all in passey place alone. Eltham high street is small and there and more food or takeaway shops than anything else. Why dont you let the people vote for what we need around here?
I totally agree there’s loads on the high street a d the side streets do not need another one
Presumably they make money?
The demand must be there for them or they wouldn’t be opening. Seems to be few other takers as older outlets like Three no longer require a High Street presence.
Most retailers are being forced away from the High Street due to high rents and businesses rates. Staff cost have also risen meaningsome smaller businesses cannot afford the cost of renting units. .
I would rather see a cafe than a vape shop for example..
I agtee with J Smith thete must be a demand for it otherwise they would not be opening on this site.
It also better than having a unit left empty for months or years.
Muffin Break on what I’ve heard do the best coffee than Caffè Nero, Costa Coffee, Starbucks Coffee and others. It’s good to have a Muffin Break at Eltham.
