Replacement ideas for rejected Stratford MSG Sphere on the way
A consultation is set to commence covering what to build on a proposed site of the scrapped Stratford Sphere.
Plans for the MSG Sphere were pulled in 2024. MSG proposed an identical attraction to one built in Las Vegas which would’ve been on land next to Stratford station.
Back when the Olympics was held the site was used as a coach park and in recently seen a number of buses parked on site and brightly painted as seen in the photo above.
Short-term plans
If you wonder what the buses are all about (I certainly did) then consultation promotional details state:
“Our short-term plans are a prelude for what’s to come; breathing new life into decommissioned buses and using them as a canvas for street art alongside a food and bric-a-brac market.”
Tracks surround the site on all sides, with HS1 to the north, tracks to Cambridge to the west and finally the line to Shenfield (and beyond).

It appears the site is in line for co-living homes and a hotel, though no exact designs have yet been revealed on their website.
Events on the site will be held at The Source, Theatre Square, London E15 1BX on:
• Wednesday 11th March (4:00pm – 7:00pm)
• Thursday 12th March (4:00pm – 7:00pm)

More new apartments to be built next door to the station with easy access for residents. Such a shame that the Sphere has been scrapped.
I do think that a new hotel and apartments are most likely to be built on the site where the Sphere was planned to be built but it’s a real shame that it’s now scrapped. And Stratford has changed so much over the years and the station is still the busiest station in East London.
Such a farce that the Sphere was cancelled by our short sighted Mayor.
We need new leadership ASAP – someone who truly understands the city’s status and won’t bend and buckle on any whim of residents. A Mayor/administration for the greater good of London.
I’m sure we will see another squat, brick clad box.
I guess that more new apartments are planned to be built on that site next to the busy station. Mind you Stratford has changed since it hosted the 2012 London Olympics and Paralympics.
The Sphere was a stupid idea for Stratford. If the one in Las Vegas – a global tourist destination – is making huge losses, what hope would there have been for one in grotty old Stratford? Thankfully, common sense prevailed this time.
