TfL to increase morning frequency on bus route 202

Transport for London are to increase the frequency of bus route 202 during mornings throughout the week.

The route runs between Blackheath Standard to Crystal Palace and services will increase to every 15 minutes from first bus until around 6:15am on Monday to Fridays, 7:15am on Saturdays and 9:15am on Sundays.

Pretty minor changes but a welcome improvement to those using it early in the day.

Arriva have won the tender to continue operating the service from 20 September when improvements comence.

The route will continue to run every 10 minutes during daytimes from Monday to Saturdays and every 15 minutes during evenings and throughout Sundays.

  • I live on this route but seldom take it, I prefer to walk.

Don’t see many people on them, to be honest. It wasn’t that long ago (~10 years) that they were single deckers so obviously the demand has come from somewhere.

    • It changed to double deckers under go-ahead who occasionally converted single deck routes to double deck so there would be more flexibility with vehicle allocation in their existing fleet. They did the same to route 129 which was previously a single deck route between cutty sark and north greenwich. The ordinary demand may not be there for DD and may never have been (except in exceptional circumstances) but once a route goes to double deck it rarely goes back to single deck.

  • Good news for people who travel on route 202 who need to travel to or from work in the early mornings. Any improvement to bus services are welcomed. We tend to see more cuts to services rather than improving them in South East London
That said route 244 Abbey Wood to Queen Elizabeth Hospital is due to convert from single to double deckers from early in 2026 probably using existing double deckers from the Go Ahead London fleet until the new electric double deckers are delivered..
