Work begins on New Kent Road hotel

This is a bit outside the normal patch covered on this site but with the imminent launch of a “Bakerloop” bus route and the ever continuing delays to a Bakerloo line extension I’ve been taking a bit more of an interest of the entire stretch of both the Old Kent Road and New Kent Road..

One of the latest development sites to commence is a 261-room hotel on the New Kent Road not to far from the Elephant and Castle.

A crane is now up after demolition was undertaken on site last year. It was previously a low-rise warehouse. The hotel will reach nine storeys.

Opposite sits the well known Driscoll House hostel.

Head a short distance west and a number of towers on the site of the former Elephant and Castle shopping centre are nearing completion.

The tube station is being expanded with a new entrance and ticket hall but still no confirmed Bakerloo line extension to Lewisham.
