Deptford park nears completion on former Thames Tideway site
A park on what was formerly a temporary Thames tideway construction site is nearing completion.
Since last covering the relandscaped green space located near Deptford station and the stunning St Paul’s church, sculpturally formed ventilation pipes – or plinths – are in place and fully visible with protective wrappers removed.

This space was formerly a park until much taken over by Thames Water for construction of the £5 billion “super sewer”.
Below ground the park looks like this.

An interception chamber links the existing sewer with a newly constructed sewer with a vast treatment chamber below ground.
To the east sits Deptford Church Street which is currently undergoing changes. Formerly a dual carriageway it saw restricted width for years while tunnel work was underway.

New cycle lanes are being installed connecting Cycleway 4 to the north with Deptford Broadway to the south.
Changes to junction between Deptford Church Street and Coffey Street, Giffin Street and Reginald Road are underway.
Much new housing
A wide range of new housing lines that stretch including on the former Tidemill school. Some school building were converted while new builds have been built on other parts of the site.
In addition, new homes are proposed beside the Bird’s Nest pub as well as the nearby Art Hub site where 231 student rooms were approved in 2024.
South of that sits the former Lewisham College site where 903 units have been submitted for approval.

That’s by far the most substantial proposal with a number of high density blocks on site.
When built out future occupants – alongside existing residents – will have an attractive green space to enjoy.
