Southeastern remind passengers of imminent ten week Blackheath tunnel closure
Southeastern and Network Rail are reminding passengers that the Blackheath rail tunnel will close for another ten weeks from this weekend.
From Sunday 18th May no services will operate between Charlton and Blackheath with trains diverted along the Greenwich line, temporarily restoring a six trains per hour service (including two per hour from Thameslink) as existed until recent cuts.
Sadly when the tunnel reopens services between Charlton and London Bridge via Greenwich operated by Southeastern will halve once again back to two per hour.
This is the second ten-week closure following a similar undertaking last year. The tunnel should reopen on Sunday 27 July 2025. Network Rail are spending £10 million to repair the 175-year-old Victorian structure.

While the closure is in place passengers can change at Greenwich for the DLR to Lewisham. There will be no rail replacement buses though a taxi can be provided for customers with accessible needs for travel between Blackheath and Charlton.
Fewer services will call at New Cross and St Johns’ stations over the ten weeks. Direct coastal trains along the Woolwich line to Margate, Whitstable, Ramsgate and other locations will run via Greenwich.
