Eltham High Street shop fined £17,000

A shop on Eltham High Street has been fined £17,258 after selling illegal vapes.

Director of Repairs 4 Mobile Hassam Zia pled guilty at Bromley Magistrates Court for selling mislabelled vapes, some which featured unauthorised trademarks of sweet brands and cartoon-style images of fruit-based characters.

The business is located between a charity shop and Sport Direct.

The council state: “Following resident complaints, the business had been visited multiple times by the council, first in April 2022, and guidance on legal selling practises was provided. Last July, 603 illegal vapes were still found to be on sale at the premises and seized.”

Zia and the company were each fined £2,500 with victim compensation charges of £1,000 and costs of £5,129 totalling £17,258 to be paid between the company and director.

He said that he had been experiencing medical problems and staff had been selling vapes without his permission.

Shop future

Aside from the fine the shop may not be around for long – at least in its current location.

An application has recently been submitted to demolish the site which includes Repairs 4 Mobile and the adjacent charity shop and build a new structure on site, as covered last week.
