Residential conversion above Eltham High Street bank proposed

Plans are in to convert upper floors above Halifax on Eltham High Street into housing.

An application had previously been made in early 2023 to build a roof extension above the structure as covered here.

That was rejected in April 2023 with an appeal then made. That appeal is in process with no decision yet made.

While that process is underway a separate application for a one floor extension was made in September 2023 and rejected in November 2023.

One reason for rejection included:

The proposed additional storeys, by virtue of its scale and design, would result in an oppressive, top-heavy building wholly out of proportion when viewed in the context of the predominantly two storey high street setting.

Furthermore, the development would result in harm to the setting of nearby Grade II Listed buildings.

The latest April 2024 plans can be viewed here.

I've lived in south east London most of my life growing up in Greenwich borough and working in the area for many years. The site has contributors on occasion and we cover many different topics. Living and working in the area offers an insight into what is happening locally.
