Blackwall tunnel weekend closure date moved

Transport for London have moved a full weekend closure of the Blackwall tunnel southbound to avoid clashing with roadworks on the M25.

Closures in March and April were announced in February, with one on 16th – 18th March now moved back.

Carl Eddleston, Director of Network Management and Resilience at TfL, said: “Due to the weekend closure of the M25 at Junction 10, which will see the motorway closed in both directions, and the increased pressure this will place on the Dartford Crossing, we have now rescheduled our planned southbound closure of the Blackwall Tunnel to 23-25 March.

“This will help provide wider resilience to London’s road network across the weekend. We apologise for any inconvenience this rescheduled closure causes.”

A subsequent closure remains on 13th-15th April.

During closures bus route 108 is curtailed either side of the river. South of the Thames it will run between Lewisham and North Greenwich station. North it will operate between Stratford and Canning Town station. Passengers are advised to travel on the Jubilee line.

Work is ongoing to construct the Silvertown tunnel which will open in 2025.

Both the Blackwall tunnel and Silvertown tunnel will be tolled.
