Plumstead shop owners face £25,190 cost after guilty verdict

A shop on Plumstead High Street’s owners have been forced to pay more than £25,000 after being found guilty of selling illegal tobacco and cigerettes.

Magazin Romanesc – located to the west of the High Street close to the station – was caught selling items in 2022 and found guilty this month at Bexley Magistrates’ Court.

Costs total a fine of £10,000 and costs of £15,000 plus a £190 charge after a guilty plea on 10 charges.

Two directors from Barking were also ordered to undertake community service.

Running a site alone takes time and a fair bit of money. Adverts are far from enough to cover it and my living costs as a private renter.

I've lived in south east London most of my life growing up in Greenwich borough and working in the area for many years. The site has contributors on occasion and we cover many different topics. Living and working in the area offers an insight into what is happening locally.
