Fire hits Woolwich shop

A fire has broken out this morning at a building on Woolwich New Road.

Fresh Fish and Meat Market saw damage with a number of people being rescued by the London Fire Brigade.

The parade of shops was set for redevelopment as part of the 1,000-home redevelopment project set to begin by 2024. Designs were revised so the frontages will now remain.

A fire broke out within the next door building in 2019. Earlier this month a fire damaged a building and cars a short distance away.

I've lived in south east London most of my life growing up in Greenwich borough and working in the area for many years. The site has contributors on occasion and we cover many different topics. Living and working in the area offers an insight into what is happening locally.

    • I hope everyone is safe including members of the emergency services who attended..
As mentioned the area is about to go under major registration. I believe shop owners are to be offered alternative premises until the new development is complete.
