Hither Green station rebuild approved

Plans to construct a new bridge and improve accessibility at Hither Green station have been approved.

A Lewisham Council Planning Committee meeting held last night (Tuesday 14 March) gave the green light after previous delays.

New entrance on Springbank Road

This site has previously covered proposals back in March 2022. Alongside a new bridge spanning all tracks was two new entrances alongside new station buildings.

Network Rail plans were revised and resubmitted in September 2022.

Changes include retaining the existing gate to the nature reserve. In addition glazing will be “installed on the main bridge span around the lift shaft areas. This is to improve internal natural light within the bridge span and ultimately improve passenger experience. The glazing will be stippled (obscure) to prevent any overlooking of neighbours.”

The Springbank Road entrance looks a vast improvement over the tiny, somewhat dingy approach right now from the south.

Two lines converge at Hither Green with four platforms located on site, with accessibility work set to benefit many when work completes.
