Woolwich Poly expansion plan submitted

An application has been submitted to build eight new classrooms at Woolwich Poly school in Thamesmead.

In recent years a school for girls was built beside the boys school, and this proposal seeks to expand the sixth form of both.

The application states “The school’s intention is to expand its sixth form facilities to be able to increase the physical capacity from September 2024, and provide equal provision for both Boys and their sister facilities, Woolwich Polytechnic School for Girls, which is located in the neighbouring site to the West.

Being located in such close proximity to each other, the school’s want to ensure that students can remain local for their Sixth Form education and not have to relocate across the borough into the selective system”.

In the past many heading into post-16 education would have gone to the college building in Plumstead, though it is now undergoing demolition and when rebuilt will be half the size it once was.

Some of the site will become new housing.

I've lived in south east London most of my life growing up in Greenwich borough and working in the area for many years. The site has contributors on occasion and we cover many different topics. Living and working in the area offers an insight into what is happening locally.
