LCD ad sign proposal blocked near Deptford High Street

Lewisham Council have rejected a proposal by BT to install an LCD advertising panel on the junction of Creek Road and Deptford High Street.

It’s not exactly breaking news given it happened in October and was discovered while looking at BT pans for others in Greenwich town centre.

It does though show councils appear to be increasingly active in halting plans to install obstructions in busy areas which can hinder pedestrians.

In this instance BT were seeking to replace a phone box. Lewisham state:

“The proposed BT Street Hub, by reason of its size, siting and level of luminance, would introduce an incongruous and unnecessary piece of street furniture that would increase street cluttering, negatively impacting the public realm and pedestrian safety, and would represent a visually intrusive addition to the streetscene and harm the character and appearance of the Deptford High Street and St Paul’s Conservation Area”

In neighbouring Greenwich borough, the council blocked plans for a sign on busy paving in east Greenwich.

I've lived in south east London most of my life growing up in Greenwich borough and working in the area for many years. The site has contributors on occasion and we cover many different topics. Living and working in the area offers an insight into what is happening locally.
