A quick look at Get Living blocks at Lewisham Gateway

Work on a major Lewisham town centre development continues to make its mark on a site between the station and town centre.

This is phase 2 of Lewisham Gateway which comprises build to rent housing, shops and an Empire cinema from Get Living and developer Muse.

One side of the development facing towards Loampit Vale contains a particularly large, slab-like block.

On the right in the above image is a tower which will end up some way taller upon completion.

Gold balconies are being applied. There’s a suspicious amount of grey cladding which would really make the tower dreary and somewhat gloomy if overdone. Massing is already somewhat lumpen.

The grey is interspersed with while panels.  Will the balance be a success?

This render gives an impression of the final appearance – subject to any alterations of course.

View upon completion. More grey cladding towards the top?

A route is to be created from Lewisham station to the road crossing leading to Lewisham shopping centre. Retail units will line the path.

This is phase two of the overall project. Phase one’s towers can be seen below:

Perhaps a bit more space for buses would have been wise here, given so many are bunched waiting to exit stops beside the station.

Anyway it was only a fleeting visit and hopefully some appreciate this little photographic update.

The residential component will be Build to Rent flats via Get Living.

It’s unlikely they’ll be particularly affordable of previous build to rent flats on phase one are a guide. £1,600 a month for a one-bed?

Phase one and two will total 910 homes.

Lewisham shopping centre is next in line for major development, with a consultation event due imminently.
