A2 closed near Bluewater for new bridge: Heavy delays

Closure of the A2 for bridge installation works by Highways England today has already seen miles of queues build up around Bluewater and Dartford.

The A2 is entirely closed between Ebbsfleet and the M25, which could catch out football fans on the way to games this afternoon.

Highways England are installing a new flyover as part of a project which will see changes made to a junction between Dartford and Gravesend.

£112 million is being spent, with 15,000 homes around Ebbsfleet a key factor.

However investment in public transport serving the area remains low. There is still no direct link between Northfleet and Ebbsfleet stations despite being just 400 metres apart. The link would play a key role connecting High Speed 1 to lines via Dartford and central London connecting to the DLR and Crossrail.

There has also been no net addition of trains in order to provide longer services at Ebbsfleet station for over a decade. That ensures some services are still 6 coach instead of 12.

A2 closures remain in place all weekend.

I've lived in south east London most of my life growing up in Greenwich borough and working in the area for many years. The site has contributors on occasion and we cover many different topics. Living and working in the area offers an insight into what is happening locally.
