Woolwich collision sees road closed

Wellington Street beside Woolwich barracks has been closed after a vehicle hit a person.

An air ambulance is reported to have landed aroundan hour ago.

Road closures are disrupting buses in the area.

TfL state:

“Routes 53 54 380 and 422 are on diversion in both directions due to a road traffic collision. Buses are diverted via Repository Road, Ha-Ha Road and Grand Depot Road, not serving stops Artillery Place / Frances Street and Artillery Place / John Wilson Street.”

    • I hope the person hit by the vehicle goes on to make a full recovery. I also hope the driver is ok and being supported.

Our roads are getting busier as more people return to the work place with a lot more traffic back on the roads, however, traffic as been increasing again over the last couple of months.

But sadly the driving standards of late are getting so much poorer amomg some drivers. So many drivers just think rules of the road just do not apply to them when it comes to speed limits, stopping at zebra crossings or stopping at red lights whether pelican crossings or traffic lights or overtaking when it is clearly not safe to do so.

We must remember the rules of the road apply to us all whether driving, cycling or being a pedestrian.

    • Your not wrong Graham I find cyclist often jump red lights and fail to stop at zebra and pelican crossings too.

The standard of driving does seem to have declined of late and I wonder how many drivers have actually pased a driving test or read the highway code. There are still a lot of careful drivers out there who suffer as a result of bad driivng of others with increased insurance premuims.

    • there are too many Buses and too many vehicles passing thru woolwich. Yes there has been a lot of development in this area, but the traffic is not due to the residents. Questions to think about,

      – Do we need so many buses via Woolwich?
      – Whats the occupancy / capacity in the buses per trip?
      – Is traffic navigation systems leading to traffic being routed via woolwich?
      – Is the council doing anything to increase Zebra & Pelican crossings?
      – Is the council doing anything to reduce and enforce lower speed limits?

    • I drive on that road daily.
The lack of pedastrian crossing close to the Vauxhall dealership makes people run across the road.

Closer to Francis St there is a crossing but when the bus is arriving, people loose their mind and just dash across the road… Seen many close calls there.
