Coffee shop 15 Grams to replace Sophia & Matt in Greenwich town centre

A new coffee shop 15 Grams is due to take on a shop unit in Greenwich town centre after retailer Sophia & Matt closed last year.

The prime spot sits at the entrance to the market on Greenwich Church Street.

New frontage

15 Grams state: “We roast and brew quality, specialty, coffee that has been sourced sustainability, with a focus on creating a positive impact.”

In addition to coffee beans they sell coffee brewing equipment. They intend to open this month.

Opening hours are:

  • Monday-Friday: 7am-4pm
  • Saturday – Sunday: 8am-4pm

  • Good to have an indie coffee shop here, when area is busy even Costa has long queues despite imo how bad they are. BUT why is it allowed to replace another non food/drink retailer? it’s retailers the like of Sophia &Matt which gives Greenwich market its interest? (though would be good to have a shop where prices are not so exorbitant too! like a recycled designer clothes store or similar) But the precedent here could be we end up with only food and drink outlets.

  • At the moment I’m sure they will take any shop that they can get to fill the space.
Also, food and drink will recover quickly, retail less so I would imagine, I doubt there is anyone wanting to open a new retail shop any time soon.

  • I used to work for Sophia and Matt in that store, I recall they commented many times about how high the rent was and how the Greenwich Hospital Trust, who own the market precinct, were charging very high rents for all of the shops in that area. I’m sure it contributed to why they closed that store in March 2020. Perhaps the only tenants who can afford the rent are high turnover businesses such as cafes and food outlets?

  • Hello, 15grams here (Inas and Joe). We’re excited to have opened in beautiful Greenwich although appreciate the importance of having a diverse high street and how difficult it is currently, I hope things change soon and the balance is restored. Our goal is to integrate into the community and bring something back. Once Covid restrictions are lifted we plan to use our site as a place to bring people together e.g gatherings and community events. We are very open to hear your thoughts and feedback (good/bad) and if you have any suggested communities or forums we should follow please do share (info@15grams.co.uk). In the meantime…let’s figure out how to pay this rent! 🙂 hope to meet some of you soon

  • Hi Inas and Joe. I for one love coffee and think the long queues for each of the existing coffee shops on weekends means I’m not alone. I look forward to trying your brews soon. Welcome to Greenwich 🙂

  • You’re very welcome! It’ll be nice to have another good coffee shop in Greenwich. As long as the coffee is good – you’ll have a customer in me.
