Eltham cinema skybar set for approval next week

Plans by a Deptford bar operator to open a new venue at the Skybar above Vue Cinema in Eltham will go before Greenwich’s licensing committee next week.

M’arks are looking to open at the vacant space. You can see their Deptford branch here. They stock food and drink from local suppliers including Wellbeloved butchers in Deptford now sadly closing – but there’s a lot more good stuff on offer.

Two Eltham councillors are objecting to opening times. One is Nigel Fletcher and the other Pat Greenwell who states: “The serving of alcohol every day from 10am to 1am the next day is totally unacceptable and will destroy the lives of people who live locally. The Sky Bar has an open air balcony that means doors will be opening and closing allowing the sound of live or recorded music to be heard until 1am EVERY EVENING.”

She also states: “The balcony is for many reasons not an acceptable area to serve food”.

Police requested no access for eating or drinking on balcony space after 10pm and the applicant has agreed.

A decision is due on the 11th March and will offer another outlet in Eltham’s much improved nightlife. There’s now a cinema and a number of excellent pubs in the area. A big improvement on 10 to 20 years ago. New pubs like Rusty Bucket and the GPO have added to choice in the local area. This latest plan sets out to improve it yet further.

I've lived in south east London most of my life growing up in Greenwich borough and working in the area for many years. The site has contributors on occasion and we cover many different topics. Living and working in the area offers an insight into what is happening locally.
