New Food bank plan in Eltham

Greenwich Council have applied for permission to open a food bank on Well Hall Road in Eltham.

The site at 57 Well Hall Road is in a parade of shops near the old Coronet cinema. According to the application: “The proposed food bank will operate from Monday to Friday (9am – 5pm) and occasionally on Saturdays. There is likely to be one employee and up to six volunteers.”

A food bank was formerly located on a site in Eltham to the rear of the High Street. It moved as plans were submitted to demolish buildings on site for new council housing.

I've lived in south east London most of my life growing up in Greenwich borough and working in the area for many years. The site has contributors on occasion and we cover many different topics. Living and working in the area offers an insight into what is happening locally.

    • This site will be a more suitable location for the Food Bank as will have a shop front. It is also easily reached by local bus routes from Woolwich Kidbrooke and Eltham. It will also help the most vulnerable people in the Borough,

The council housing on the site of the old Food Bank in Orangery Lane Eltham is very much needed.

      • The Well Hall site is basically a welcome centre for clients to go and collect their food parcels
The actual warehouse is being relocated to Shooters Hill which will be a distribution area for the whole of Woolwich and Greenwich, it will also be the place where food is sorted and made up into packs for clients. At present there is a warehouse manager with the rest of the helpers being volunterary. As I speak the move takes place this weekend.

    • Carol. You all do an amazing job at the food bank helping the most vulnerable people in the Borough. We cannot thank you and your fellow volunteers enough for everything you do.

We know it has been very difficult for Food Banks during the Covid-19 crisis so thank you. and good luck in your new premises.
